5 Steps to Becoming a CPA in New Hampshire

“Live Free or Die” is one of the most hardcore state mottos, and you will find a lot of people from Manchester on north who take it surprisingly seriously.

In part, that means being financially independent. The Granite State isn’t one of the richest in the nation but people here tend to hang on to what they make. New Hampshire has one of the best savings rates in the country, ranking second in the nation for retirement savings, with an average retirement account balance of nearly $500,000.

That savings doesn’t just happen by magic. And once New Hampshirites start building up that nest egg, they are smart enough to seek professional advice for growing it.

That’s where the state’s accounting professionals come in. The state Employment Security Department forecasts that accounting and auditing jobs will expand by 8.1 percent by 2028, a rate above the national average. Those CPAs will be kept plenty busy by both the state’s aging population and retirees who got word that it’s one of the top places to retire to in the country for having a low cost of living and high healthcare standards.

Of course, there’s plenty of work for CPAs outside of financial planning and individual tax preparation work, too. The state comes in at number 6 in the country on the Tax Foundation’s Top Ten Friendliest Tax Climate Index. There are plenty of local industries that take full advantage of that, and need accounting professionals to keep the books in line.

Follow the steps in this guide to learn exactly how to become a CPA in New Hampshire.
